My "Perfect" GT3 Gamesave
When I first got my PlayStation2, I didn't think much of it. For the most part, I bought it as
a surrogate DVD player, with the added video-game functionality. I didn't
buy any games for it for a long while, and one of my friends eventually loaned me his copy
of GT3. When another friend of mine was visiting, he discovered the
Complex String Time Trial, and from there I got hooked.
It fascinated me to see this course, a veritable playground for driving, with
nearly every type of corner represented ON A SINGLE TRACK! For the next
few months, it became a priority to beat the default #1 time, and I learned a
lot while making those attempts.
And by the time I finally achieved that goal, my skills at "driving" with the
DualShock2 had grown, and I had found myself fully immersed in the game. I
had already worked toward more than 80% complete with that initial gamesave, but
my win percentage was poor, I only had one or two gold license times, and I
generally felt as though my gamesave was "dirty"...
So I decided to play the game in a way that would leave me with few regrets.
I wanted a 100% win percentage. I wanted to get all Gold License Times.
I wanted to buy and use as few cars as possible, to keep as many cars
"untouched" as I could. And, I wanted to do so in the fewest Game Days as
possible.
It took quite a long time, but with practice, experimentation, and determination
I finally got it done. It was a moment of both relief and satisfaction,
but there was also an acknowlegement that I couldn'tve done what I did without
the proper (reliable) sources of information.
One of the greatest resources I used was the message boards at
GTPlanet.net.
There, I found all of the details I needed to adequately plan my journey, having
access to Prize Car Lists, Race Events and their requirements, as well as a
countless supply of reports from other GT gamers who were kind enough to share
their experiences. Needless to say, I wouldn'tve been able to do what I
did without that site.
GTPlanet.net was
the site where I created my handle ("RoadHazzard", as opposed to RoadHazard),
and I journaled my journey in their GT3 forum.
And lastly, before you start writing your email to me regarding any semantic
differences between what we call "perfect", and/or whether it's ever attainable,
take note that I keep putting the word in quotes...
Here's the link to my thread:
Working On The "Perfect" Game
It'll take you through the process I went through to get the job done, from
concept to reality, and everything in between. For those who are bored
enough, insane enough, or for the insanely bored, it's quite a bit of reading.
Have A Great Drive!
